It's AltWheels's Tenth Anniversary!

AltWheels has come a long way from its start as a public festival on alternative transportation and energy to today's focused day-long seminar for fleet managers.

The brainchild of Alison Sander, AltWheels started in 2003 as a way to increase awareness among the general public on ways to reduce costs, emissions and our reliance on fossil fuels, and showcase new and upcoming technologies such as hybrid vehicles, alternative fuels, and smart transportation options.

Thanks to the efforts many dedicated people and organizations, our message was heard and there was a growing desire by many to be part of AltWheels. It wasn't very long before AltWheels outgrew its original home at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline and moved to a spectacular setting at Boston City Hall Plaza. AltWheels attracted more than 50,000 visitors during each of our two years at Boston City Hall Plaza and our success led us to rethink our goals.

As hybrid, electric and alternative fueled vehicles became more common, and the public became more aware of the country's energy and climate challenges, the time was right for a more precise focus. It was felt that AltWheels could have a greater impact by focusing on best practices in transportation and engaging with early adopters. AltWheels's first Fleet Day was in 2005 and since then has brought together corporate, municipal and institutional fleet managers to share best practices, and see new and upcoming innovative technologies.

We've come a long-way in ten years (see the AltWheels Photo pages to see how much has changed over the years!), and we look forward to another exciting AltWheels Fleet Day on Mon. October 7th, 2012.
