Staples
www.staples.com
Staples has a long-standing commitment to sustainability which focuses on four key areas:
eco-friendly products, recycling services, investing in energy efficiency and renewable power
and educating customers and associates about sustainability.
Staples has taken a number of steps to reduce the environmental impact of its delivery truck
fleet. In the fall of 2006, Staples worked with Isuzu to
reconfigure its delivery trucks to limit top speed to 60 miles per hour. As a result, fuel
efficiency has improved by an average of 15 percent. This change resulted in a savings of more
than 500,000 gallons of diesel in 2007 alone.
In early 2008, Staples started test piloting a hybrid diesel/electric delivery truck developed
by Isuzu and Enova which is expected to further reduce fuel
use compared to a standard delivery truck.
To help drive environmental improvements outside its own fleet, in 2007, Staples joined the EPA
SmartWay program as a Shipper Partner. Through the EPA SmartWay program, the company is working
to help ensure that the carriers it works with deliver products in an environmentally efficient
manner.

National Grid's "Take Action" Initiative
National Grid US
www.nationalgridus.com
This Spring, National Grid added more than 60 new compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to its
fleet as part of its continuing effort to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse
gasses that contribute to climate change.
Added to the company' existing fleet of approximately 900 CNG vehicles are 66 new Honda Civic GX
sedans, recognized as the "Greenest Vehicle of 2008" by the American Council for an Energy
Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The Civic GX is powered by a four-cylinder engine that has been
recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the "Cleanest Production Engine"
currently available.
"We recently announced our intent to increase our target for reducing company-wide greenhouse
gas emissions from 60 to 80 percent by 2050 and adopt carbon budgets across our operations,"
said Jennifer Zschokke, vice president, Sustainable Development for National Grid. "Use of CNG
vehicles in our daily operations will help achieve this target while mitigating the effects of
climate change without affecting our ability to serve our customers. We're committed to
safeguarding our global environment for future generations to come."
During 2007, National Grid's CNG fleet displaced over 360,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel
fuel by using clean, economical natural gas, and:
• Eliminated over 1,512 tons of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas
• Eliminated over 100 lbs. of nitrous oxide, a contributor to smog
• Eliminated the need for more than 18,100 barrels of imported oil

In the Summer of 2007, Chevrolet launched its major informational campaign
"Chevy Fuel
Solutions" to educate the public about the full range of technologies that Chevy is
developing to improve fuel economy, reduce dependence on oil, and reduce environmental
emissions.
Chevrolet believes hydrogen is the most effective long-term response to address the global
climate issue in the motor vehicle industry. Fuel cell vehicles fueled by hydrogen are more than
twice as energy efficient as internal combustion engines and produce zero emissions—only
heat and water leave the tailpipe. With hydrogen produced from renewable sources of energy,
fuel-cell vehicles are truly zero-emissions vehicles.
Chevrolet also believes that renewable biofuels, especially ethanol made from cellulose, will
have a role in the mid- to long-term future in many regions, except Europe. Vehicles operating
on biofuels have the potential to greatly reduce (though not entirely eliminate) greenhouse gas
and other emissions. Furthermore, the vehicle technology is largely developed, and Chevrolet has
produced and sold almost two million flexible fuel vehicles in North America that can operate on
blends of gasoline and ethanol up to 85 percent ethanol (E85). In Brazil, GM produces vehicles
that can operate on 100 percent ethanol.
Chevrolet envisions a period of transition from the internal combustion engine to the hydrogen
fuel cell vehicle and biofuels characterized by continuous improvements in conventional vehicle
technologies (Gasoline Direct Injection, Active Fuel Management engines, variable valve timing,
six speed transmissions, lightweight materials for mass reduction, and aerodynamics
improvements), modern diesel technology, and the introduction of a variety of hybrid vehicles
for consumer and commercial markets.

Freightliner Custom Chassis
www.freightlinerchassis.com
Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) is the first manufacturer in the industry to
introduce hybrid commercial vehicles into fleet operations, with over 160 HEVs in service
since 2004, in addition to over 1,000 CNG-fueled chassis in service since 2000. "Our Hybrid
vehicles have proven the chassis' durability and reliability, by meeting the rigorous
demands of the pick-up and delivery duty cycle. They recently surpassed the two-million
in-service mile mark operating in this tough environment" says Jonathan Randall FCCC
Director of Sales and Marketing.
The hybrid-electric powertrain, combined with a diesel engine and electric motor, drive the
FCCC chassis to achieve an over 40% improvement in fuel economy and an over 90% reduction
in emissions compared to baseline non-hybrid vehicles, while demonstrating an over 99% of
in-service up time. The 200 hybrid electric vehicles will be deployed in 2009 and join the
25 FCCC HEV delivery trucks already in operation. The 200 trucks are expected to save
176,000 gallons of fuel annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,786 metric tons
each year.
HEVs — The hybrid electric vehicles purchased by UPS are powered by Cummins ISB EPA07
200-horsepower diesel engine in conjunction with the Eaton hybrid power system. The hybrid
motor / generator driven by lithium-ion batteries offers a seamless combination of diesel
and electric power on a chassis rated up to 29,000 lbs. GVW.
Lithium-ion batteries capture and store energy during the regenerative braking phase of the
vehicle's operation. The batteries are constantly being charged eliminating the need to
plug into an electrical source. Both the engine and the electric motor can provide power to
the drivetrain. The hybrid supervisory controller selects the most efficient mode of
operation depending on current operating conditions and driver demand.
The proven hybrid technology includes the introduction of two innovative features critical
for the Walk-In van application: a new low-profile shift control on the hybrid drive unit
(HDU) and an integral parking pawl. The new HDU shifter arrangement allows for a completely
flat floor in the driver's area with no need for cab structure modifications. This offers a
more ergonomic interior for the operator and increases driver safety. The innovative
integral parking pawl allows for the transmission output shaft to be locked when the shift
selector is in the "park" position. This new feature, along with the foot-applied parking
brake, allows for a safe and reliable means to secure the vehicle.
CNGs — The additional 300 CNG chassis will be deployed in late 2008. The purchase of
these vehicles reflects the growing customer demand for alternative solutions to meet
current fleet fuel conservation goals. The FCCC MT45 / MT55 CNG model chassis', are powered
by a Cummins B Gas Plus dedicated CNG engine with a 195 horsepower rating of 195 with an
Allison 1000/2000 series transmission. FCCC CNG vehicles feature a GVW of up to 29,000 lbs.
The fuel system includes twin seamless aluminum fuel cylinders with a carbon-fiber shell
and stainless steel fuel / vent lines for a light weight and non-corrosive system. This
fuel system will provide a nominal 275 mile fuel range. Both the Hybrid Electric and CNG
powered vehicles allow for the same productivity, performance, durability and reliability
as our premium diesel powered chassis.
Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation manufactures premium chassis for the motorhome,
delivery walk-in van, and school bus and shuttle bus markets. Freightliner Custom Chassis
Corporation is a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America LLC, a Daimler company.

Malone Specialty
www.malonespecialtyinc.com
Malone Specialty Inc. was founded in 1982. The company has two different distinct divisions,
but they tend to complement each other. The Industrial Products Division distributes metric
hydraulic tube fittings, hose couplings, adapters, tubing and also makes special
made-to-order items for industrial distributors and dealers across the country. The
Transportation Products Division designs and produces a variety of spare parts and accessory
installation kits for the major manufacturers of imported mid-range trucks.
In the past 8 years, the company has increased its engineering capabilities and broadened its
product offerings to satisfy its truck and OEM customers. It has invested a considerable
amount of time and effort in developing an electronic engine protection and monitoring system
which has been given the registered trademark of CV-MARC®. This system can monitor an
engine's Coolant Level, Coolant Temperature, and Oil Pressure. If anyone of these falls
outside of a set parameter an alarm will sound on a display panel before eventually shutting
down the engine. This can help avoid serious permanent damage to the engine. Three years ago
a new feature was added, Idle Limiting. This feature alone has proven to save fleets over
15% in fuel expense not to mention what it can do for lowering maintenance cost. Malone
Specialty Inc. has also developed an interactive website
(www.cvmarc.com) that can allow users to upload the fault code
information from the CVMARC® memory. This information can be viewed by fleet managers and
be sorted by state, region, even all the way down to the individual trucks. It has proven to
be a valuable tool in the early detection of engine problems. In February of 2007 Malone
Specialty Inc. was granted a patent for the CV-MARC® system.
Last year, the system was updated to give the customer the option of GPS tracking. This
feature allows customers to not only track where the vehicles are, but also monitor the
functions of the vehicle and up to 12 additional inputs in real-time. For more information on
this system log onto our website at www.malonespecialtyinc.com and click on the CV-MARC®
logo.
Malone Specialty Incorporated quality policy is "Excellence in Customer Satisfaction". This
focus has helped us grow throughout the years and will guide us into the future.

The upgrade is quite neat, as a spring-loaded false floor in the trunk, sitting over the spare tire. The first model for conversions will be the Prius, followed by the Highlander and Camry, beginning with a 5kwh battery offering a range of 20 miles.
Gas and diesel powered trucks/SUVs can be upgraded into plug-in [parallel] hybrids by adding a motor, controller, battery, and charger. We are targeting trucks and SUVs from 1.5 ton down to half ton class, for example Ford F150 to F350 models and variants. When ordering a conversion, the motor torque will closely match the vehicle engine, and you choose the battery size that most closely matches your daily drive distance, yet stays within vehicle weight restrictions.
Any car or truck can be converted to an electric vehicle. Convert a Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, GMC, Jeep, or any vehicle. The range is limited by the battery pack, but there are choices of power and speed that rival any car or truck, and prices vary according to requirements.
ConVerdant will be establishing service outlets throughout New England, with the first Service location in Concord NH. Other cities will get local service as soon as practical. Fleet garages can also be trained to service their own vehicles.
ConVerdant Vehicles, owned by Randy Brown is located in Corcord NH (sales@converdant biz).

Cummins Northeast
www.cumminsnortheast.com
Cummins Northeast is the exclusive distributor for Cummins diesel and alternate fuel engines,
Cummins Power Generation, and Fleetguard Emission Solutions for New England and upstate New
York. Cummins Northeast, a Massachusetts based distributor, serves most of New England
including upstate New York with headquarters in Dedham, MA and locations in Williamsville, NY;
Syracuse, NY; Rochester, NY; Albany, NY; Springfield, MA; West Lebanon, NH; and Scarborough, ME.
Cummins has long been a pioneer in emission research and development, investing in critical
technologies to achieve future emission standards while meeting the needs of the customer. More
than half of the $2.4 billion spent by Cummins on research and development in the last 10 years
has been invested in emission reduction technologies. Cummins global presence gives us access to
global talents.
Part of the Cummins clean diesel strategy is to involve original equipment manufacturers as
early as possible in the development and integration process. This open exchange of information
and technology has been, and will continue to be, instrumental in developing high-performance
products that deliver optimum performance and reliability at the lowest total cost.
Cummins was the first to meet the EPA standards in 2002, and we're well on our way to meeting
the next level of EPA standards in 2007. Engines with 2007 technology have been in field tests
with end-users since mid-2005. And in 2007 Cummins ability to leverage its businesses will
become even more of an advantage, as Cummins is the only engine manufacturer with wholly-owned
subsidiaries providing technology for air-handling (Holset) and aftertreatment systems (Emission
Solutions). For the U. S. on-highway truck market, Cummins has been the leader in the
application of cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology for controlling NOx emissions.
Cummins environmental commitment goes beyond the development of current products, such as in the
area of fuel cell research. In collaboration with the US Dept. of Energy, Cummins Power
Generation is developing a 10-kilowatt (kW) solid oxide fuel cell system for a wide range of
commercial and consumer applications. Such fuel cells will be able to use both fossil and
renewable fuels in an highly efficient and environmentally friendly manner by producing
electricity without combustion.

eGO Vehicles
www.egovehicles.com
eGo is edicated to providing the best personal transportation vehicles available. And every
single one of the eGo team has been personally involved with designing and building eGO
versatile, rechargeable electric bicycles. eGo was founded by a teamwith extensive experience
in battery technology, light vehicle design, manufacturing and marketing.
eGo Vehicles exists to sell and lease environmentally advanced vehicles that will move people
safely, cleanly, and efficiently through their daily lives. eGo Vehicles is committed to seeking
out and bringing to market reliable new technologies and vehicles.
If you're in a business that uses fleets of vehicles, a squadron of egos could supplement your
fleet or replace it altogether. Pizza deliveryis simpler on an eGO Ð stack them on the back and
off your driver goes. It's more economical than a car, andbrings great publicity to the company
that delivers pizza on electric bikes. In a campus environment or for security patrols, you'd be
hard-pressed to find a more efficient way to zip from building to building.
Answers to top five business questions:
- Rental fleets - quick change battery pack for three minute turnaround
- Low acquisition cost
- Low maintenance design: no gasoline, lubrication or tune-ups
- Low operating cost, under $0.05 per mile (including insurance)
- Rugged chassis and drive train;built to take punishment.

protection of Massachusetts's water-related resources.

Mazda
www.mazda.com/csr/environment
Mazda is committed to developing and launching more environmentally friendly vehicles. In
addition to reducing exhaust emissions and raising fuel economy, we are accelerating R&D on new
energy sources, materials and recycling methods.
In March 2007, Mazda issued its Sustainable Zoom-Zoom long-term vision for technology
development. Sustainable Zoom-Zoom is our commitment to clear policies and objectives for
technological development in powertrain, design and vehicle assembly, toward achieving a
sustainable future for the global and transportation environments.
There is a vital need to respond to global warming and other environmental issues that affect
the planet. As global car ownership continues to expand, automakers such as Mazda must redouble
their efforts to achieve cleaner exhaust emissions and to reduce CO2 emissions through
improvements in fuel economy. We must also reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, which are in
danger of depletion.
Developing Clean Diesel Vehicles. Although diesel engines consume less fuel and emit less
CO2 than gasoline engines, the tradeoff has been higher nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate
matter emissions. However, new emissions reduction technologies have led to increased use of
diesel engines in environmentally friendly vehicles in recent years, particularly in Europe.
Mazda has commercialized clean diesel vehicles that handily pass Europe's Euro 4 automotive
exhaust gas regulations by employing common-rail direct-injection turbo diesel engines (MZR-CD)
that burn fuel efficiently, in addition to diesel particulate filters (DPF) - which trap
particulate matter - and other exhaust treatment technologies.
